March 31, 2008

Indiana Tech has removed the interim tag from Jay Kroft’s title and officially named him as the new Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball program.  Jay Kroft is a 1998 graduate of Indiana Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  Kroft is also a former Indiana Tech Basketball player from 1995-1998.  During his playing years, the Warriors were nationally ranked in the NAIA and the team had one of the leading offenses in the country.

Kroft’s extensive coaching background includes stints at his high school alma mater, Oak Hill High School, I.U.-Kokomo and his most recent appointment as interim coach at Indiana Tech. In addition to his coaching experience, Jay’s strength is in his recruiting and can claim career influences on players at nearly every collegiate level as well as the NFL and NBA.

Jay will rely heavily on his coaching and recruiting expertise as he looks to revamp the women’s basketball team and bring the program back to a place of prominence.

UNOH races past Warriors
February 12, 2008

The women's basketball team played with tremendous heart and courage on Senior Night but the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers managed to pull away in the second half  to win, 68-55.  Senior Night was to honor senior guards Natasha LaGrande (Southfield, MI / Mercy) and Robin Jackson (Lansing, MI / Lansing Everett) for their commitment and service to the women's basketball program.  The Warriors started off the game well and had a comfortable lead early on but by halftime, the Racers had closed the gap to one.  Eventually the Warriors wore down and the Racers behind the shooting of freshman Krissy Koester (19 pts. - 8/13 FG and 12 rebounds) and the inside play of sophomore Abbie Clifton (15 pts. and 6 boards) were able to put the game away.  The Warriors were led by freshman guard Faith Johnson (Flint, MI / Flint Southwestern Academy) who came off the bench to score 21 points and freshman forward Lesley Williams (Hamilton, OH / Fairfield) added 10 points.  The Warriors return to conference action on Wednesday, February 13th when they host the Aquinas College Saints.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.

The women's basketball team showed some tenacity, a little more balanced attack and hit some clutch baskets down the stretch to win their first conference game of the season, 74-73 over the visiting Siena Heights Saints on Wednesday night.  Both teams were even at half (38-38) but after Siena Heights tied the game with a Onicko Bigg's free throw, the Warriors went on a roll and built an eight point lead and held on for the victory.  The Saints were paced by senior Onicko Bigg who had a double-double (17 pts. and 10 rebounds).  The Warriors had three players in double figures for scoring led by senior guard Robin Jackson (Lansing, MI / Lansing Everett) who had 17 points off the bench and freshman Jessica Walker (Garrett, IN / Garrett) had 15 pts.(10 for 11 from the charity stripe).  The Warriors hope to maintain their momentum when they travel to Aquinas for an afternoon game on Saturday, January 19th.  Tip-off is 1:00pm.
