Warriors improve to 7-6 with win over IU Northwest
January 5, 2009


The Women's Basketball team began the new year with a win over non-conference IU Northwest, 74-66.  The Warriors, who held a 37-28 lead at the half, were led by junior guard Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western HS) with 24 points, six steals and five rebounds.  Sophomore forward Katie Stewart (Eugene, OR / Willamette HS) came off the bench to chip in 13 points on 5 for 7 from the field (3-3 3pt.).  Freshman center Danielle Boykin (San Diego, CA / Bonita Vista HS) led the Warriors in rebounding with 13, her second highest mark of the season.  The Redhawks were piloted by Sharon Houston (32 pts. and 25 boards) and Jenelle Kapelinski (19 pts.).  The Warriors will next begin conference play on Wednesday, January 7th when they host the Madonna Crusaders at 7pm.



Warriors lose a tough one to Bethel
December 15, 2008


The Women's Basketball team fresh off their win over Grace the night before, dropped a 74-65 decision to Bethel in the final game of the SportOne Classic.  The Warriors used a strong first half to jump ahead of the Pilots, 36-30 at the half.  In the second half, the Pilots out shot the Warriors (57% - 37%) and erased their first half deficit.  The Pilots were led by tournament MVP, Mandy Yoder (22 pts.) and Bekah Basinger (12 pts.) who was also selected to the all-tournament team.  For the Warriors, junior Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western HS) scored 19 points and freshman Danielle Boykin (San Diego, CA / Bonita Vista) had 10 points and 8 rebounds.  Both Thieke and Boykin were named to the All-Tournament team.  The Warriors will next host Taylor University on Saturday, December 20th for a 1:00pm game.



Warriors defeat Grace in SportOne Classic
December 13, 2008


On Friday night, the Women's Basketball team improved to 6-5 with a 67-56 victory over Grace College in the first day of the SportOne Classic at Indiana Tech.  The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead and led by eleven at the half.  Grace attempted to rally several times in the second half but the Warriors were up to the task.  Tech had three players in double figures for scoring, junior Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western) had 14 points and 5 boards, sophomore Amanda Tipton (Burton, MI / Bentley) added 12 points and freshman Rachel Parker (Bloomington, IN / Bloomington South) had 13 points (4-8 3pt.).  Grace was paced by Kiera Gray (16 pts.) and Hayley Cashier pulled down 11 rebounds.  The Warriors wrap-up the tournament with Bethel College in the final game of the SportOne Classic at 3:00pm on Saturday.



Thieke and Browning each named WHAC Player of the Week
December 9, 2008


Indiana Tech swept the WHAC Player of the Week honors for December 7th.  Junior guard Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN) and senior forward Tim Browning (Detroit, MI) were selected for this weekly award.  Thieke averaged 26.5 pts., four rebounds, three assists, 2.5 steals per game during Tech's 2-0 week.  The victories improved the Warriors to 5-5.  Thieke is averaging 20.3 ppg and she is ranked 10th in the nation for scoring.  Browning averaged 18 ppg and eight rebounds as the Warriors split at the Ivanhoe Classic at Taylor University.  In the first game, Browning scored 22 pts. and grabbed a season high 12 rebounds, his second double-double of the season, in the 98-85 victory over Cardinal Stritch.  During the tournament, Browning shot 66.7 % from the field (14-21) and was perfect from the charity stripe (6-6).



Warriors defeat Eagles
December 8, 2008


The Women's Basketball team improved to 5-5 on the season with a 81-74 victory over the host Robert Morris College (Chicago, IL).  The Warriors held a slim lead at the half (42-41) despite outshooting the Eagles (48% - 34%).  In the second half, the Eagles shot 28% and the Warriors took advantage and cruised to the win.  Junior Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western) led the Warriors in scoring with 17 pts.  Junior Amanda Tipton (Burton, MI / Bentley) and freshman Danielle Boykin (San Diego, CA / Bonita Vista) each had 11 pts.  Junior Hannah McKinnon (New Haven, IN / New Haven) and Sophomore Chelsea Shadday (Kendallville, IN / East Noble) each pulled down 6 rebounds.  The Warriors next game at Taylor-Fort Wayne on Wednesday, December 10th has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict.  The next home game is the Sport One Classic next Friday and Saturday, December 12th-13th.



Warriors defeat UNOH

On Wednesday night, the Women's Basketball team improved to 4-5 with a convincing 81-74 win over the UNOH Racers.  Both teams exchanged leads early in the first half until late sprint just before the end of the half gave the Racers a five point edge. They held the lead for the opening minutes of the second half until the Warriors stormed back behind the solid play of junior guard Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western), freshman forward Yasmine Coleman (Indianapolis, IN / Pike) and freshman center Danielle Boykin (San Diego, CA / Bonita Vista).  Thieke led all scorers with 36 points (7-19 3pt. and 11-14 FT), Coleman was 6-9 for 12 points and 7 rebounds and Boykin had 13 points and she was the top rebounder with 11.  The Racers were paced by Ashley Jackson (21 pts.) and Amanda Francis (23 pts.).  The Warriors will next travel to Chicago, IL to play Robert Morris College on Saturday, December 6th.  Tip-off is 2:00pm.

Wesleyan uses quick start to defeat the Warriors
November 29, 2008


The Women's Basketball team struggled in the opening minutes of their game against Indiana Wesleyan and the Wildcats took advantage in route to a 63-47 win over the Warriors.  Wesleyan opened up a 12-0 lead before the Warriors could answer and despite a furious attempt to get back in the game, the Warriors could not erase the deficit.  Junior Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN /. Western HS) scored 9 points and recorded 6 steals and sophomore Chelsea Shadday (Kendallville, IN / East Noble) had 10 defensive rebounds for the Warriors.  The Wildcats were led by Elaine Hessel, 17 points and 12 rebounds and Andrea Fichter with 16 points and 7 boards.  The Warriors return to action on Wednesday, December 3rd when they travel to the University of Northern Ohio for a 7:00pm game.



Thieke scores 15 in loss to IU-South Bend
November 23, 2008


On Saturday afternoon, the Women's Basketball team lost to IU-South Bend 72-60 at South Bend, IN.  The Warriors and Titans were almost even at half with the Titans holding a slight lead 31-30. In the second half, the Titans made 22 trips to the charity stripe and that made the difference in the ball game.  The Warriors were led by junior guard Hannah Thiecke (Kokomo, IN / Western) with 15 points and 5 rebounds and sophomore guard Amanda Tipton (Burton, MI / Bentley) with 10 points and 8 boards.  For the Titans, Kimmie Hummer had 17 points and Katie Hacker had 11 rebounds.  The 3-4 Warriors will look to get back on track when they host Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, November 29th.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.



Women's hoops win home opener
November 19, 2008


The Women's Basketball team defeated the visiting Goshen College Maple Leafs 93-68.  The Warriors stumbled out of the gate but quickly gained their composure and sprinted out to a 51-30 halftime lead.  The Maple Leafs attempted to get back into the game early in the second half but the Warriors pressured the Leafs into turnovers and some key baskets assured the Warriors their third win of the season.  Three Warriors were in double figures for scoring, starting with junior guard Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western HS) with 25 points (21 from three pt. range) and freshman guard Leshea McCoy (Mansfield, OH / Mansfield) went 6 for 8 from the field for 13 pts.  Sophomore Chelsea Shadday (Kendallville, IN / East Noble) led the Warriors in rebounds with 7.  The Warriors will next travel to South, IN on Saturday, November 22nd to Indiana University- South Bend.  Tip-off is at noon.



Women's Basketball defeats Point Park
November 17, 2008


The Women's Basketball team participated in the Cedarville Women's Basketball Classic on Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15th.  The Warriors split their two games, losing Friday evening to Malone 60-51 and winning the Saturday afternoon match with Point Park 73-66.  In the first game, the Warriors played it close in the first half but went cold in the second half and let the game slip out of their hands.  Junior guard Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western HS) scored 14 points and freshman forward Yasmine Coleman (Indianapolis, IN / Pike) had 15 points on 6 for 9 shooting and 6 boards.  In the second game, Thieke dialed in from long distance and scored 24 of her 30 points on 8 for 22 from 3 pt. range, the Warriors scored 58 points in the second half to overcome a 24 point deficit.  Junior Hannah McKinnon (New Haven, IN / New Haven) had 12 pts. (10 from the charity stripe) and 12 boards.  McKinnon was named to the all-tournament team and the Warriors will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday, November 19th against Goshen.  Tip-off is 7:00pm.



Tech splits at ONU Tournament

The Women's Basketball team participated in the Olivet Nazarene Tournament on November 7th and 8th and finished with a 1-1 record for the weekend.  In the first game on Friday, the host Olivet Nazarene Tigers defeated the Warriors 115-79.  The Tigers put up 64 shots from the three point range with senior Courtney Hehn shooting 11 for 19 from that range for 33 points.  Hehn lead all scorers.  For the Warriors, freshman Leshea McCoy (Mansfield, OH / Mansfield) had 13 points to lead the Warriors and freshman Danielle Boykin (San Diego, CA / Bonita Vista HS) pulled down 15 boards and added 10 points for a double-double.  On Saturday, the Warriors played Goshen College and won 93-76.  The Warriors were led by junior Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western) with 36 points on 9 for 16 from 3 point range.  Freshmen Yasmine Coleman (Indianapolis, IN / Pike) and Danielle Boykin each contributed 11 rebounds and freshman guard Rachel Parker (Bloomington, IN / Bloomington South) chipped in with 15 points.  Thieke was selected to the All-Tournament team. The Warriors will next play in the Cedarville Tournament (Cedarville, OH) on November 14th and 15th.



Warriors drop their season opener to Huntington
November 5, 2008


The Indiana Tech Women's Basketball season begin their 2008-09 season with a loss to Huntington University, 67-53. The Warriors kept the game close in the first half, trailing at halftime 32-28.  In the second half, the Foresters opened up the game and outscored the Warriors 35-25.  The Warriors were led by sophomore guard Amanda Tipton (Burton, MI / Bentley) with 22 points and 8 rebounds.  Junior guard Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western) was the only other player for Tech in double figures for scoring (10).  The Warriors will travel to Bourbonnais, IL to participate in the Olivet Nazarene University Tournament on November 7th and 8th.  Tech will play host Olivet on Friday the 7th at 7:30pm and on the 8th they will play Goshen at noon.
